Perhaps a better question to ask is whether teenagers are crucial for Facebook to thrive. After all, shares of Twitter soared during the company’s first few days on the public markets. The company’s market capitalization is now almost $25 billion. And it was able to achieve that without a firm grasp on the teenage demographic.
Facebook must acknowledge that it’s a massive adult network and go after advertisers interested in marketing to those people. The older folks are the ones that have all the money anyway.
Oh, it also doesn’t hurt to have Instagram in your back pocket.
