The Writer’s BLOCK

Illustration of writer's block by Grant Snider

Illustrator and author of The Shape of Ideas Grant Snider, dropped a new comic for New York Times books that outlines the pains of writer's block using the metaphor of a city block itself.

I've written extensively on the myth of a writer's block here before. And it's just that, a myth. No matter what fictitious ailment people claim they have with frozen prose, no one ever gets talker's block. Nor does the plumber ever get plumber's block.

Here's the trick to getting unstuck: Write like you talk or put perfection aside and write poorly until you have something of substance.
