Come As You Are

Michael Jordan, Kurt Kobain, Oprah. If none of these people ring a bell you might be living under a rock.

Ignorance doesn’t necessarily indicate an age gap. Sometimes ignorance is personal. Parents are mostly responsible for this. They build their own cultural bubble for their kids, barring them from the freedom to discover music, TV, and video games.

Starving your kids of culture is like starving them of candy or soda. As soon as they get to college, they’ll most likely abuse those things.

The same is true if the kids are given too much access early on. The last thing you want is a kid thinking he wants a gun because of playing Halo.

Ignorance and overexposure are both imbalances that can be prevented. But after that, cultural awareness is up to the individual.
