Mixed Expressions

“You should be a photographer, a writer,“ says everyone who doesn’t understand how to take advantage of the apps on their phone or the Internet.

Everyone is creative today. It takes a second to apply a filter and a minute to set up a Tumblr or Twitter account. All you need is a sense of quality. If you know what good stuff looks like, you can recreate it.

People confuse mastery with the ease of art. There are professionals that do it for a living and amafessionals those that do it for fun. As soon as the wannabes start trying to monetize their art, the fun expression part collapses. The art and the medium become all about commerce.

Andy Warhol accurately predicted “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.” Digital marketing and creation takes far less effort than it once did.

In a world of ubiquitous tools and selfies, personal expression is a click away. We are what we share, but not necessarily much more.
