New York City has everything and anything you want in terms of goods and jobs.
So it’s no surprise that Facebook is opening up a full engineering office in the Big Apple, following in the footsteps of eBay, Spotify, and Twitter. Foursquare and Tumblr are already there.
I tweeted yesterday about a brain drain from Silicon Valley to New York. Let me clarify.
By no means will we see a complete shift of technology companies to the East Coast. Rather, we’ll see more coexistence.
Silicon Valley is ideal for engineering talent, networking, and Tech VCs. New York has all these things but an advantage over Silicon in pure finance, big brands with NYC-based corporate offices, and a rabid technology culture outside the world of techies. New York is the predictor of global adoption of new devices and tools.
SF, NYC, London, Berlin – it may be more fun to guess which city will be added to the list as the next hotbed of tech entrepreneurship.
