Simulator Sickness

One of my best friends says it best, “People want the experience without the experience.”

In other words, most people prefer vicarious experiences over real ones. They prefer to ride a roller coaster through Oculus Rift rather ride than go to Six Flags. They rather sightsee Paris through someone else’s Instagrams rather than take their own.

Augmented reality and social media create a world where fantasy exceeds reality. If you can see and feel the real picture, why expend the energy and spend the money to do the real thing?

People desire an interactive quest for surprises. And if they can live an experience from their couch, they will. The mind is a master at toying with the imagination.
