Snapchat is unintentionally revealing.
People take you into their homes like MTV Cribs. They show you their dogs and significant others. It’s a bit mad to know know what type of couch they own or that they don’t clean up after themselves.
At the same time, Snapchat is intentionally fantastic. You can turn yourself into an ice road trucker or a panda. Every day is Halloween on Snapchat!
Perhaps Snapchat’s appeal is that it’s both incredibly real and unreal. It blends ephemerality with extreme revelation whie also providing an ecosystem of fantasy. Both the producer and viewer agree to its risky nature and find it acceptable to peek into each other’s lives and act ridiculous.
