SOPA Makes The World Go Dark

SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) will be scary effective. It’ll flip creativity and social upside down.

Technically, any picture, video, article or any other form of media you upload or link out or reblog/retweet/repin can be crushed, along with a government mandate to close your profile or website too. The leaders in the online space like Google and Facebook should be fighting like hell to end this bill.

SOPA basically escalates the RIAA music lawsuits of the early 2000s into a full fledged lawsuit on the entire web.

It also sets entrepreneurship back completely. Companies like Spotify, Instagram, and Pinterest would be squashed from the get go. These companies were launched on illicit content.

Startups would have to go underground. Fearing for privacy, all of us would be driven to communicate through email.

SOPA is the child of old congressmen living in the world of paper, telephones, and face to face meetings. Antiquated rules. They’re the ones that still think Twitter is just about telling the world about your last meal. Completely myopic, they’ll be the culprits for America’s demise in the information age.

There’s no way in a million years this thing passes. Right?
