Catch

For the past few months, I’ve been using the Drafts app to record ideas for blog post topics.  It opens right to a blank page for quick recording and sharing to email and just about everything else (e.g. Dropbox, Day One, Facebook/Twitter, and Things).  It’s incredibly useful.

But there’s still a need for pre pre-state idea collection, especially when I’m on the go and don’t have to time to elaborate.  I just want to get the idea down.  Right now, this process consists of me writing in my Draft app and emailing it to myself.  I’ll later come back to the idea to assess.  By the end of the week, I’ll have about 10 idea emails mixed in with my day to day emails.  It’s a mess I’d rather keep separate.

That’s why I’m digging the Catch app. Off the bat, I can catch an idea via text or audio recording (opens right up and starts) and it goes into “My Ideas” box.  The app is also well designed.  The circular scroll for button actions reminds me of Path.  There’s additional uses too such as a reminder tool and group idea sharing.

As a blogger, idea collection on the go is crucial.  The best ideas seem to come when we can’t record them, during a conversation, on the way to a meeting, or rushing to make the train home.  Clutter-free idea categorization is also key.  I just need one place for a brain dump.

I’m going to give Catch a shot over the next couple weeks.  I’ll let you know if it makes the iPhone home screen.
