And it’s Arsenal, Arsenal FC. My wife and I went to the Gunners – Red Bull match yesterday. The game was actually pretty uneventful for the Arsenal but the Germans were missing along with Alex and a couple key starting defenders. The fans were superb though!

Nevertheless, it’s great to see Arsenal play in the United States just after riding the high of the World Cup.

This cheered me up after the painful Arsenal loss this morning.

Matchday, 2012

Though we knew no different at the time, there was an enviable simplicity about watching football in the pre-Twitter, pre-smartphone age. No impulse of superfluous urgency in the face of intense experience, or any experience. No inner murmur of, “Should I be tweeting this? Should I blog it, post it, tag it, like it, film it and upload it?”

During Arsenal games, my finger hands on the Twitter button awaiting the next celebration or massive complaint.  For me, talking about the game in real-time enhances the experience.  No one wants to watch a game alone.
