Get it down

72a15ba221934a2ced28a489f116d549

Jot it down,

Write it,

Scribble it,

Record it,

Instagram it,

Snap it,

Scrawl it,

Paint it,

Graffiti it,

Visualize it.

Sauté it.

It doesn’t matter what tool you use to capture it; what matters is that you get it down first. Only then can you consider sharing it.

If you're an artist, photographer, writer, etc., I highly recommend creating your own blog and publishing something new every day (read my post on how to set up a FREE blog on Wordpress).

Reviewing Concepts

Concepts are initial ideas, sketches, plans, on how things could look and be built out. They’re not meant to be final but rather starters for discussion.

Here’s Elon Musk’s sketch for his proposed “Hyperloop.”

Here’s Jack Dorsey rough sketch of Twitter.

The sketch is a jumping off point. By all means, criticize it, toss it, or add to it.  But as a reviewer, don’t make believe it’s ready to ship unless you’re prepared to sketch one yourself.

Creativity is a work in process and understanding, just as much as it is making the idea come to life.

“NYC has always been in my peripheral vision whilst growing up, specifically through my interest in film and hip-hop. my first trip was in 2001, just before the WTC fell. this proximity to 9/11 had a lasting impression on me and consequently my work.”

“High and Low” by Jules de Balincourt High and Low would make a good jigsaw or drawing for a New Yorker cover. It’s the sort of painting you can project yourself into, losing yourself in this painted day. This is an unsophisticated sort of pleasure, but one I never wholly tire of. Children like to lose themselves in pictures like this. You imagine the lives people live there, and get distracted as you look. You could call it escapism but you always re-find yourself inside the labyrinth of looking, thinking and daydreaming. Looking is a beginning as much as an end in itself. Indeed
