Phantom Trophies

The past is not necessarily a precedent for future actions. It fails to take into consideration change: change in technology, change in rules, change in the way your customers or fans follow you.

The past is what you did based on what you knew at the time. A successful past doesn’t necessitate repeated success. Repeated executions are copouts.

We need to do better than merely accept survival. The whole idea to plus up a prior experience is be better than you were last year.

Survival can be just that, halted progress and a few steps backward. You can hang in there but you ultimately need to evolve.

Shortcuts emerge from short term thinking. Primacy requires adaptability. Transform like a chameleon and act the fittest.

Tiers of Doubt

  • There are doubters on the level of atheists that refuse to accept any answer as true. This group dislikes the notion of certainty and group think.

  • There are doubters that question everything as a means of exploration, a philosophy of life. They see endless opportunities in all things but they are more thinkers than actors.

  • There are doubters that are worriers. They stress over uncertainty, unable to make decisions on anything that’s unproven. Worrying is the enemy of action.

  • There are also passionate doubters that tend to be more open to things and pragmatically test. These doubters are willing to experiment for the sake of being wrong or proven more right.

Doubt is an elastic mindset with many different interpretations and emotions about an evolving world.

Doubt is essential to questioning the way things are but for reasons of making them better.

Doubters can be better choosers and better leaders.

We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.

In praise of laziness

Creative people’s most important resource is their time—particularly big chunks of uninterrupted time—and their biggest enemies are those who try to nibble away at it with e-mails or meetings. Indeed, creative people may be at their most productive when, to the manager’s untutored eye, they appear to be doing nothing.

I think we all could use a little bit more “looking out of the window time.”

Use Your Anger To Smash Creative Blocks

the most productive participants reported positive emotions at the end of the day, but also noted that they started their most productive days with negative emotions. In other words, they channeled their anger into their work.

Negativity can be fuel for creativity.

The best you can do to get through life is distraction. Love works as a distraction. And work works as a distraction. You can distract yourself a billion different ways. But the key is to distract yourself.
