Using Snapchat To Teach

“The best way to learn new material is to try to personalize it to your life,” Britt says. “You know, come up an example or attach it to some prior knowledge.”

Professor Michael Britt is using Snapchat as an auxiliary chalkboard, publishing snaps from real life moments to further illustrate some of core themes in his course.

Instead of rejecting mobile technology and social platforms, more teachers should be using it to teach. The Khan Academy has been doing this for years, using YouTube to educate students.

The whole point of teaching is to get students to understand. Social media is an effective way to reach students in a space they naturally play. Snapchat in particular offers a fun way to communicate the educational message.
