TV was stale until Twitter came along.
Twitter simply puts the energy back into TV, making it more about the online conversation than watching the show itself.
For the TV reason alone, Twitter is more powerful and more lucrative than Facebook.
Last night, LL Cool J continually promoted the #Grammy hashtag during broadcast, so much that if felt like overkill. It’s a simple reminder from the programmer and TV executives that “hey, we have to make our numbers.”
Twitter makes watching TV fun and relevant again. It doesn’t matter how bad the content is, all that matters is that there’s enough buzz and star power for people to tune in.
A TV program’s success will ultimately be judged on how well it performs on Twitter. Twitter is now indispensable to TV, more than a mere compliment to Nielsen ratings.
