Why I Didn’t Buy the Apple Watch (yet)

My parents gave me the money to buy an Apple Watch for my birthday except I never bought it. I researched it online. I went to the store and tried it on. The watch was cool, a microcosm of the iPhone.

I don’t have an issue with the watch itself. It would probably save me from the addiction I have to my phone. They say the watch is useful for glancing at information instead of navigating from app to app tripping on mobile dopamine.

My main concern with the watch is its mortality. They’ll be a new version of the watch next year. At some point, Apple’s software will stop supporting the original version. Shouldn’t watches be more timeless?

Expiration is part of smart devices. The next fashionable item to computerize are cars. But the question remains the same: what products stand with time instead of trickling into obsolescence?
