Work for life’s sake

People work to survive but also because they don’t know what else to do with their lives. They complain about their jobs but are even more depressed when they don’t have one.

Work provides purpose. It’s a platform that allows people to demonstrate their skills, creativity, and leadership. The positive feelings that come with feeling needed and admired make work hard to quit. Everyone seeks validation, even in the most frivolous of chats. Work also prevents the enemy that is boredom.

Whether people work to live or live to work, work defines who they are. Work is where people spend 70% of their day, if not 100%, since the Internet never sleeps.

Finding work that people enjoy is really the hardest part because most of what people love to do is shaped by their personality. As Oprah argues in the interview below, the key to a successful life is in knowing why people are here in the first place. “Work at being awake” and the rest will come to fruition.
